FRANK and Carole Burden’s Graffoe Limousin Stud at Tintinara has excelled in the Southern Grassfed Carcase Classic.
Their stud won reserve champion carcase for its Limousin Angus trade steer entry at Teys Bros meatworks in Naracoorte.
The competition is judged under the Australian Beef Carcase Appraisal System and assessed for MSA eating quality.
It is open to all commercial and stud beef producers from SA and Victoria.
Mrs Burden said it was turning out to be a real showcase for the Limousin breed as the grand champion carcase for two years running was won by another Limousin breeder with Limousin cross lightweight steers.
"By winning prizes at all weights, Graffoe has shown how versatile Limousin crosses can be," she said.
"This unique competition shows what using a well muscled Graffoe bull as terminal sire can do for producers with British breed cows – nothing puts the shape and muscle on a set of calves like a Limousin bull.”
