KEITH'S new GP Naleemdeen Sihabdeen (Dr Deen) and his family have been welcomed with open arms by the community.
The family has been living in the district for two months and Dr Deen has been practising at Keith surgery for about a month.
His arrival has been a major relief for Emeka Nwagbara who has been the only doctor in Keith since Joseph Odeke moved away late last year.
Originally from Sri Lanka, Dr Deen spent the past four and a half years working as a GP in Kuwait.
He came to Australia on migration visa and spent about four months in WA before securing the job in Keith.
The main drawcard which brought the family to Australia was his children's education.
Ashmal, 12, Mushriff, 10, and Zaynab, 7, have settled in well at Keith Area School.
"They like the school very much – the teachers and students – and they are performing well," Dr Deen said.
The family is also enjoying country life after living in big cities in Kuwait and Sri Lanka.
"(Kuwait) is a small country with a big population. Here is very isolated and quite calm. We like it."
Dr Deen is the 10th in a family of 11 children. Two of his brothers are also doctors.
