ALAN Hinge and family were awarded the Tatiara Insurance Agencies trophy for their 2009/10 janz crop at the annual Tatiara Wheat Crop Competition presentations.
First time judge, Landmark manager Sam Densley, was impressed with the quality of entrants across the board. Judging took place in December.
It was Alan's janz with a score of 96/100 that took the top prize. It's the first time he has won the honour.
Sam said the high yielding crop overcame other issues including the presence of weeds and off types.
In second place was Kennett Farms's Derrimut wheat, with a score of 95/100. John Hunt's Pugsley wheat came in third place.
Roger Groocock's Correll won best crop on clayed or delved ground.
Grain sample winners were: AH category – Mark Ballinger; APW – Ross Lutt and Jeff Arney; soft – Rob Liddell; durum – Simon Mock.
Sam reported on the judging task at the presentations and shared his views about the season that had such good potential, but didn't come to fruition.
In judging Sam's criteria was loosely based around lower input crops getting the same results.
